Experience
I have been tutoring formally since college and informally long before that. My genuine and patient personality made my friends and classmates know they could always come to me with math questions. Later, as part of a master's program in Math Education, I taught classes at the U of M and in Saint Paul Public Schools (9th-12th). As a student, I know what a relief it is to have a tutor to help with a hard semester or a big test. As a tutor, I love to encourage people and see them succeed. When I'm tutoring, I start by listening to students go through a problem and explain how they think the concepts work. Often it's a small detail that's off and they only need a nudge in the right direction to figure it out. Using examples from the real world and building on what they already understand, I help them see patterns in new concepts that make it easier for them to really "get" it. Each student has a different learning style. My diverse experience with athletics, art (left-brain) and math (right-brain) helps me adapt my approach to fit every individual. I look forward to working with you!
