Experience

I graduated from Lesley University this past May with my Master's in Elementary Education K-6, and license to teach in Massachusetts. In May 2014, I graduated from Colby College with a B.A. in Human Development and Education. I grew up in Minneapolis, MN and attended Breck School where I was fortunate enough to have teachers who instilled in me a sense of why learning is so important, and made learning such a joy that I had no doubt it was a profession I wanted to pursue as a career. Throughout my time at Colby, I was a student teacher in Waterville Public Schools (specifically, George Mitchell Elementary) in grades 2,3,4 and worked with one student as a tutor and peer support for three years. During the summer of 2013, I worked for Breakthrough Collaborative in Minneapolis, as a 7th grade English and Grammar teacher. Breakthrough Collaborative works with high achieving yet underrepresented students in public school systems. It is a nationwide collaborative that works throughout the United States. During this time, I planned and implemented a grade level curriculum, worked with students one on one in homework lab and after school help, and got feedback from my mentor teachers. Additionally, I spent my Junior year working and teaching in Copenhagen, Denmark and doing comparative research on international models of eduction. Most recently, I have been a Graduate Intern at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols school, which is a private school in Cambridge, MA where I have been working full time in 5th and 2nd grade. As a result of creating meaningful relationships with students, I have been asked to tutor some kids after school in grades 2,5, and 6 and have loved creating relationships one on one with them and tailoring curriculum to their needs. Hobbies

Over the past five years, my passion and commitment to working in this field of education has deepened and been molded by my own experiences in education. I have studied child development, researched children in a multicultural context, worked in foreign education systems while studying abroad in Denmark and Turkey, and worked with community based organizations in low-income communities, teaching underrepresented students in the United States through the Breakthrough Collaborative. I also worked over the course of a year with the Harvard Initiative to End Child Malnutrition in rural Uganda to develop and implement community based malnutrition education and screening protocols. These experiences have allowed me to work with diverse student populations from varied cultural and socio economic backgrounds and have made me a passionate advocate for positive educational experience for all students! I am a passionate educator who enjoys being outside, spending time with my twin sister, parents and chocolate lab Gracie. In college, I was captain of the Varsity crew team, and enjoy running and biking during the summers. I am a true Minnesotan at heart and love working with children to find what excites them about learning! I hope to work with your son or daughter to make learning during the summer enjoyable and meaningful for both of us.
