Experience
A central Minnesota native, I started my academic journey at Hamline University, where I attained my Bachelor of Art degree in English, with a focus in creative writing. I also earned psychology and women's studies minors as well as a certificate for teaching English as a foreign language. Outside of studying, I polished my writing skills working for the university's newspaper and worked as a mentor for new transfer students, while holding down a part-time job at an area mall. These days, I'm dedicating my time toward earning my master's degree in early childhood education at Concordia University. In addition to pursuing my master's, I'm also learning Spanish. As far as my tutoring experience is concerned, I tutored middle school students and high schoolers while completing my undergrad. I worked with students in the areas of Spanish, literature, math, writing, and social studies. I also worked for a year as a literacy tutor for elementary school students through Minnesota Reading Corps. Currently, I am a teacher at a preschool focused on helping students become proficient in Spanish and English, fostering bilingual and bicultural education. I share a classroom with another preschool teacher, working with nearly 20 students ages 3 and 4. I try to balance my academic life with my favorite pastimes that include: biking around St. Paul and Minneapolis, reading, practicing yoga, traveling, writing, and performing poetry.
