Private tutor in Minneapolis, MN

Education

I graduated from Drake University in 2011 with double majors in Finance/Accounting and Mathematics. I had a 3.94 GPA. I also have completed my Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) studies. I can also tutor finance theories. I also studied abroad in Australia and China (I can tutor Chinese as well). I would say I have a diverse background and am very open to diversities.

Experience

I am currently tutoring Chinese with very young kids. I want to be a tutor because I believe we are truly creating something powerful when we share knowledge. And I value the one-to-one relationship between a tutor and a student. I think the environment offers more value than a classroom setting. It removes any judgment the student might feel and really focus purely on learning. Nothing makes me more proud to see my students to go from nothing to something. I take pride in that. I am very strong in math skills. Back in elementary and high schools, I exhausted all math classes that were available and the school ended up sending me to a state university nearby to continue higher math education.

Hobbies

I am a gentle person, and easy-going. I like getting to know my students, so I can understand their learning habits and challenges. I aim to form meaningful relationships with my students. My approach to teaching is systematic. I like to have a teaching plan, reviewing previous concepts before moving on. Many believe that a tutor's main job is to help a child complete a certain homework at hand. While I think that can be part of the main job, it is equally important to drill on the broader concepts and application( not just that one homework). I am hoping that my tutoring sessions are linked from one to another. They shouldn't be stand-alone sessions, as far as studying material. Please feel free to ask me any questions on my approach (sometimes it is easier to explain in person). Some hobbies I enjoy doing: reading, coffee, photography, dancing, yoga, pilates, traveling, learning new languages, cats, dogs...
