Private tutor in Minneapolis, MN

Education

I hold a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from The Univ of MN, Mankato, MN. I then got my Autism Teaching Certification from the first class offering this course in the early 2000's at the Univ of St. Thomas, Minneapolis. I went on to acquire my Masters Degree in Special Education-Autism from Univ of St Thomas, with an additional teaching certification in devlopmental-cognitive delays. I have experience with early childhood age all the way up to adulthood.

Experience

I am interested in tutoring both typical elementary age students and special education students of any age. I have over 20 years experience as a preschool, elementary and special education teacher, along with most recently as an autism specialist for the schools,an educational coop, and a family-child development center. I am not working full time at this time, however I am interested in private work out of my home, a neutral location, or yours home if the location is good. I am willing to collaborate with your child's teacher and specialists and follow any IEP goals and intervention strategies, behavior intervention plans, and sensory integration needs. I have expertise in specific learning styles and teaching techniques for students on the autism spectrum and AD(H)D. I also teach to the child's specific specific learning style and needs. I am highly regarded in the occupational therapy professionals and wrote my master's thesis on the subject.

Hobbies

I will work with you and what you can afford. I have been a mother of a child, now adult, who is on the autism spectrum - to a moderate degree. I know the struggles of single parenting and limited finances. Because I "lived" the life parent research, teaching, advocacy, along with understanding the education system made me a perfect match for my career. I was very active in all areas of interventions, including heading a support groups. I am very receptive to parent's needs and advocacy for their child. I was a Founding Board Member for the Lionsgate Academy, first secondary school in MN for those on the autism spectrum. We started small as a middle school in a church, and it rapidly flourished to its own building with middle-high school & 18-21 transition programs, with now a 2nd location being added in 2018! It has been a wonderful experience being part of starting up this much needed school, and with such a successful outcome!
