Private tutor in Minneapolis, MN

Education

B.A. in Physics, Math, and Statistics (St. Olaf College, 3.94 GPA) M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Minnesota, 3.94 GPA)

Experience

I can tutor in almost any technical subject at almost any level. I studied physics, mathematics, and statistics at St. Olaf College before earning my Master's in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota. I love anything and everything that is mathematical: the trajectory of a projectile, an abstract function, the flow of a viscous fluid, regression analysis of data, electron interactions in chemical bonding, you name it! Concepts such as these are special to me, and I think it is very important for young people to take them seriously and try to understand them. This is part of what makes me an excellent tutor. I am passionate about these subjects and desire deeply that others, especially young people, develop a working understanding of them. I take immense pride in student improvement of conceptual understanding and application. How does this improvement happen? Through my deep understanding of the material and my experience conveying that understanding to others. My undergraduate and graduate coursework have given me a working knowledge of almost any mathematical subject (from algebra and precalculus to partial differential equations and number theory), any physical science (not just physics, but related topics in chemistry and engineering), and any "data science" (probability, statistics, mathematical modeling). For student progress, conceptual and technical understanding in these subjects must be conveyed in a manner commensurate with the student's ability, personality, and learning style. I have extensive experience doing just this. Throughout college, I worked as a math and statistics tutor for the Center for Experiential Learning (CEL) at St. Olaf, helping students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels elevate performance in their technical courses through a focus on improving fundamental understanding. For several years, I also tutored students taking the introductory physics courses at St. Olaf, helping with problem solving skills, conceptual understanding, and application of math skills.
