Experience

Hi there! I've been teaching classes and workshops and tutoring for over five years now, and love it! I've worked as a professional ACT tutor for one of those big test prep companies, was a middle school and high school English teacher for three years in Korea, taught K-12 English in Taiwan for a year, and have worked privately with students since I was a 10th grader in high school. In addition to private tutoring, I'm also a professional writing consultant for a university. I provide individualized and small group instruction in your home, local libraries, or another agreed upon location. I have a strong Liberal Arts background and have taken college level courses in subjects ranging from math and science to English and history. I have worked with all ages of students, from kindergarten to adults and university students. I use a student-centered approach with guiding questions to make learning more relevant and interesting. I am highly creative, and tend to work "out of the box," meaning I use a wide variety of strategies and approaches to promote understanding. A good tutor can explain academic concepts in a variety of ways, of course, but more importantly is able to offer structure, guidance, and build confidence. If you are interested in my services, please let me know about yourself (grade level/age, subjects needing help with, and expectations) so we find a time and place to meet to discuss an arrangement. Basic snapshot of experience: Over 1000 hours tutoring ,4 years classroom teaching experience, 34 on ACT test, and 97th percentile on Miller Analogies Test. I charge on a sliding scale (25-50 per hour, but usually 35) depending on the subject and grade level. Also, I sometimes do tutoring for much lower rates if you have financial need.

Hobbies

I enjoy reading, especially science fiction, and PC gaming (strategy). I was also a sous chef for about a year and enjoy cooking from-scratch meals every day. Whenever I can, I choose to ride my bike instead of driving, and also am a big fan of gardening. I have one cat who is always happy to see me when I get home.
